Coping with anxiety

posted Sep 30, 2009 9:50 PM by Steve S

Those of you who have been concerned about and are following the case of Mitrice Richardson may find yourself experiencing feelings of excessive worry, poor sleep, poor appetite and poor attention and concentration.  If you are experiencing these symptoms please know that this is a normal response to a very tragic and anxiety provoking situation.  It is important to be aware that although these symptoms are normal, if you do not deal with these symptoms they may get worse.  Here are a few things that can help you cope with this crisis.

 1.        Include regular exercise in your daily routine.  This should include at least 30 min of moderate exercise most days of the week.

 2.        Eat healthy and regular meals to maintain your energy level.

 3.       Listen to relaxing/calming music.  Do this in a room with soft light for the best effect.

 4.       Talk to someone about how you are feeling – you might find that others are having the same feelings as you.

Disclaimer:  These are general tips on how to deal with anxiety and should not be deemed therapeutic intervention.  If you are currently in therapy discuss with your therapist how deal with your specific  symptoms.  If you feel that you need professional help contact your insurance company, your job may have an EAP program to assist you in finding a therapist  or contact your local government mental health agency.  If you find that  you are in a crisis call 911 or go to your  nearest emergency room.
